Product Introduction

Product Introduction

The Metal Guardrail Surrogate is developed for active safety, intelligent driving and road departure mitigation testing in controlled proving-ground environments. It provides a realistic roadside guardrail object for evaluating vehicle perception, road-edge recognition, lane departure mitigation and vehicle response performance under typical road departure scenarios.

The product was used as a technical reference in the development of SAE J3234 roadside metal guardrail surrogate standardization work. It is designed to reproduce the appearance and sensing characteristics of representative roadside metal guardrails while maintaining a soft, lightweight and vehicle-friendly structure for repeated proving-ground testing.

Each standard guardrail surrogate section has a 2 m modular length. Multiple sections can be connected to form different guardrail lengths and roadside layouts according to the test scenario. The product can be configured asW-beam metal guardrail or three-wave beam metal guardrail, with optional I-beam, round-tube or square-tube post structures.

The surrogate dimensions can be configured to match representative roadside metal guardrails used in theUnited States, China, Japan and Europe, and can also be customized for other national or regional specifications. The product is suitable for building standardized roadside object scenarios for intelligent vehicle perception, road departure mitigation and safety validation tests.

The product uses soft and lightweight materials to reduce the risk of damage to the test vehicle during crash or contact tests. Its surface design reproduces the typical zinc-gray appearance of galvanized metal guardrails and provides representative visual, LiDAR and automotive radar characteristics. It can be detected by cameras, LiDARs and automotive radar sensors from typical visible road-facing directions.

The modular structure allows quick installation, connection, replacement and maintenance. It can be used independently as a roadside object surrogate or integrated with complete proving-ground test scenarios, including road departure mitigation, lane keeping assistance, road edge perception, roadside object detection and intelligent driving safety evaluation.
